COVID 19 UPDATE:

Apologies for being absent and quiet over the last 4 months, as many of you know, I had a baby girl (Annabelle) in April, right in lockdown! Due to the combination of these two things, I have had my hands rather full and life is definitely not like I have ever known it before!

Prior to Covid-19 I had hoped to only take the summer term for maternity leave but as Covid continues, it is unfortunately looking near impossible for me to be able to run any after school clubs within the government guidelines. With this in mind, I am looking forward to resuming clubs at both Sandfield and Boxgrove Primary Schools in January – assuming things improve or we find ways to adapt.

My best wishes to everyone and I hope you are all keeping safe and healthy. I will email out booking links as soon as they open for January!

Boxgrove Spring term clubs:  Years 1+2 will start on  Tuesday 12th January, Years 3-6 will start on Friday 15th January. This club is only open to pupils of Boxgrove School.

Sandfield Spring term clubs:  Years 3+4 will start on  Wednesday 13th January, Years 5-6 will start on Thursday 14th January. This club is only open to pupils of Sandfield Primary School.

Clubs will run for 10 weeks during which the children will learn how to prepare and cook food.

The aim is to give children a chance to discover food in a new way, to let them explore and experiment with food in a fun and safe environment.

Children will learn and practice:

  • How to follow recipes
  • Safe knife skills for cutting/preparing a range of ingredients
  • The basic principles behind making pastry, pizza and pasta
  • How to make simple base sauces which they will then be able to adapt as their cooking knowledge grows.

Ingredients, aprons and all equipment will be provided each week. For the first week, containers will be given to the children to bring their food creations home in but for the following sessions we ask that either they wash and re-use the container from the first week or that they bring another suitable container from home.

All children will receive a copy of the recipes each week to take home. These will be laminated so that they can be wiped clean in order to last.

The children had a wonderful time at the Cooking Adventures After-School Club. The menus were nicely varied between sweet & savoury and incorporated lots of useful skills.

My son was delighted to learn how to make custard from scratch – no more packets for us!
